Artists portrait of Amedeo Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani

Amadeo Modigliani died of tuberculosis on January 24th, 1920 in Paris at the age of 36. Even today his name and his artistic achievements are stereotyped: a womaniser, wrecked by drugs and alcohol, the incarnation of the Montparnasse bohemian who died at an early age. The subjects of his works and the language of his painting are highly restricted. He concentrated on women's faces and nudes as well as portraits in the wider sense. In all his work there are only four landscape paintings known today. Despite his friendship with the sculptor Brancusi, who deeply influenced his malleable works, Modigliani remained a loner, whose paintings revealed a strong affinity to the Classic style, despite all their modernity. The fascination of his works may be a result of the clear contradiction between an unrestrained lust for life and pleasure on the one hand and the melancholy and tragic circumstances of his existence on the other. The tragedy was amplified by the suicide of his pregnant girlfriend Jeanne Hébuterne the day after his death.
To our knowledge the art works on this page were created in the years from 1906 to 9116.
Amedeo Modigliani uses for the pictures shown here mostly the technique: Huile sur toile.

    Art Cards

Our art cards are from well-known publishers in Germany. The classic 15x10 format is just as represented as the square 14x14 format.
