This photo is of a sugar factory. When I was shooting a documentary about the people in the sugar factory, the Corona epidemic was subsiding and everything was starting to get better again. Different factories started operating and thousands of workers and their families work there day and night. All these workers are not locals, they come here from states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for 6 months. They have all their families with them. Everybody from children to old women live together. All these workers are given a field to live in, and all the men build houses out of grass and coconut tree branches and live there for 6 months. October to April is the cold season so all of them have to be very careful. In the picture, the people are working beside the children who are playing. Sometimes when the children don’t have much to do and act stubborn, they are given mobile phones and shown cartoons for their entertainment. These children cannot go to school for 6 months, because they have all left their village. It is very difficult for them to get a square meal everyday along with clothes and shelter. When I go here for photography, I bring toys, chocolates, and sometimes clothes for the little ones. I get a lot of peace in my mind with the thought that I have the ability to help these people along with the photography that I do.
